As a former EDS person, this feels like an odd move. EDS is (or at least was) the machinery for compromise making and co-ordination. It’s not and can’t be a driving force, given its structure and the need to keep all Depts on side. twitter.com/nmdacosta/stat…

I don’t particularly like the presidentialism of No 10 but I also know that if you want to make things happen (particularly at times of crisis like now) you need strong driving power from the centre.

My compromis-a-la-belge broad-alliances side likes the idea of coordination and brokering as the core functions of the governmental centre, but UK system isn’t really set up for it.
