Apparently Steve Hilton (former No 10 adviser and dotcom CEO) is NOT the elite, but someone elected by fifty thousand voters is. Ok then.

Billionaire property magnates who screw over small businesses: not elite. People who campaign for years and talk to voters every day: elite.

Ex-city trader who does 4 terms in EP but barely shows up: not elite. MP for a steel town who campaigns tirelessly for sacked workers: elite

So, the elite work harder, better represent citizens, and are poorer than the non-elite. Someone tell the OED.
